Open House, Survey Regarding Project to Realign Highland Way & Emmett as part of Nashville Road Widening

A public open house and survey are being conducted by Public Works staff regarding a project to realign Highland Way with Emmett Avenue as part of the Nashville Road widening project. The open house is planned for 4:30-6:30 pm on Jan. 23 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

A project open house will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 553 Ashmoor Avenue regarding a proposed realignment of Highland Way with Emmett Avenue at Nashville Road. Park in the parking lot on the Brentmoor/Ashmoor side of the building and enter through the main entrance there.  See exhibit.

BACKGROUND:
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has completed design for the Nashville Road Widening between University Boulevard at WKU and Campbell Lane.  As part of this project, KYTC and City staff have worked together to include a realignment of Highland Way at Nashville Road as part of this project, which has funding allocated for it by KYTC.  The proposed Highland Way would be approximately 850’ in length and align with Emmett Avenue at the existing signalized intersection.

The purpose of this realignment is to address safety concerns given the current un-signalized intersection of Highland Way/Nashville Road and also to increase mobility for motorists in this area of the City.

Once widened, this section of Nashville Road will also feature a 5’ sidewalk on its west side and 8’ shared use path on the east side. The intersection of Highland Way with Nashville Road will become a right in/right out turn only.

The purpose of this short survey is to measure support for the proposed realignment of Highland Way.
