Temperatures are expected to drop into the single digits later this evening. If you lose power and need a place to get warm, there are several warming stations scheduled to open.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Temperatures are expected to drop into the single digits later this evening. Winds will be around 20-25 MPH with gusts of 40 MPH. This wind will likely cause some power outages so be sure that you have a secondary source of heat that is safe to use indoors and that generators are only used outdoors.
Prior to the cold temperatures and frozen precipitation, it is likely that rain will fall and wash away any pretreatment that is laid. This will make road conditions worsen as temperatures fall. We anticipate a flash freeze which will cause traffic impacts this afternoon into morning commute hours on Friday.
If you lose power and need a place to get warm, the Salvation Army at 400 West Main Street will be open. Also Room in the Inn will operate a warming station at the City's Kummer Little Recreation Center, 333 College Street, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Travelers through the area who temporarily need a place to warm up, can go to Tru by Hilton at 1864 Cave Mill Road or Hyatt Place at 1347 Center Street, to warm up in the lobby. These two hotels are NOT offering free rooms. They are offering to allow stranded travelers a place to warm up for a short period of time in the lobbies.
