Permit Applications

The following permits may be required for construction projects within the city limits of Bowling Green, Kentucky:

Building Permit

A building permit is required by the city to construct, enlarge, alter, repair or demolish a structure or equipment installed in a building or to change the use of a building.

Electrical Permit

Projects that involve installing or modifying electrical wiring or circuits, change in service, repair of service, placement of a temporary pole or relocation of an electrical appliance require approved electrical permit.

Standard Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) is required for all land-clearing activity, providing drainage perimeter controls, and stabilization of work-areas final seeding and finishing.

Any building or structure that is to be demolished.

Site Work Permit Application (Excavation, Grading, & Paving)

Clearing land area in excess of 350 ft2 requires grade slope and elevation plans. Projects excavating or grading more than an acre of land require additional storm water plans to prevent soil erosion and flooding.

Paving plans must be approved for new parking lots and driveways.

Manufactured Home Permit

When assembling a manufactured home on land area 750 ft2 or greater require a permit and Plot Plans. Smaller projects require a permit and dimensional drawings that show property lines and utility easements.

Mobile Home Permit

Installing mobile home into a park requires a permit along with the signature of park owner or manager. Additions such as a porch, pool or storage building require a separate building permit.

House Moving Permit

Housing structures moved using city roads require a permit and approved inspection. The placement location of the structure may require building or grading permits.

Fence Permit

All fences require a permit.

Fences above seven feet in height require a permit and drawings.

Property line set-backs, utility easements and prevention of soil erosion must also be considered.

No Fee Permit

When constructing or placing an accessory structure less than 200 ft2 or a fence less than seven feet tall. Commercial accessory structure 120 ft2 or less. No fee will be charged for these approvals.

Permanent Sign Permit

Signs must conform to the Sign Standards set out in Article 4 of the Zoning Ordinance. Permanent Signs placed on a building require 5 copies of plot plans with approved engineering stamp for review.

Short Term Rental Permit

If you are converting a property into a Short Term rental, or registering for the first time, this is considered a change of use and inspections are required, and you will need a Short Term Rental Permit.

Swimming Pool Permit

New in-ground swimming pools, additions to existing pools or alterations to your pool require a permit and ESPC plan.

Additions such as a deck or pool house require a separate building permit.

Tent Permit

Tents erected in excess of 400ft2 require a permit. Dimensions, purpose of use, date of placement, timeframe for use, and number of tents must be provided. Electrical power being used in or around tent requires electrical permit.
