Changes, Challenges & Community: A Conversation with Anne Murray

Dec 4, 2025

This week, we’re taking a walk through Bowling Green’s past, present, and future with a truly remarkable guest. Join us for a heartfelt conversation between the City’s Downtown Development Coordinator and longtime resident Anne Murray — a woman whose story is woven deeply into the fabric of our community. Anne came to Western Kentucky University as a student and, in 1969, became the Dean of Women during a time when women could be dismissed from school for becoming pregnant and when both the university and the city lacked the diversity we know today. Over the decades, she’s witnessed profound changes in gender equality, cultural diversity, and the growth of downtown — which she lovingly calls the heartbeat of the community. From memories of shopping along bustling downtown streets to grabbing treats at Riley’s Bakery back when it was a downtown staple, Anne shares stories that remind us how far we’ve come and why our city’s core still matters. After leaving WKU, she built a career studying human behavior and helping people understand one another — a mission that still resonates today. Tune in to this inspiring episode of TalkBGKY and hear Anne’s powerful reflections on how Bowling Green continues to grow, evolve, and welcome all. Listen now — you don’t want to miss this one!
