Your City At Work: December 2023 Leaf Update
Dec 19, 2023
The 2023 Leaf Pickup Season has been rocking and rolling through Bowling Green with already almost 871 tons of leaves collected thus far. Leaf Pick up is a free service provided to residents in the city limits. OMTs like Derrick Sanders, an operations & maintenance technician in the Public Works Department, have the responsibility of picking up leaves weekly. Leaf pick up crews work in crews of 4 with rakers and a Piper to collect leaves. OMTs are responsible for leaf pick up, snow & ice removal, mowing, and even trimming trees throughout the city limits. On December 15th, the Public Works Operations division has recorded 205 total loads collected. On December 29th, daily zone leaf pickup officially ends. On and after January 2nd, leaf pick up will continue on a request basis. Leaf pick up will also be performed as needed to re-establish free drainage on our city streets.
