Information Technology
The Information Technology Department researches, implements, maintains, secures, and optimizes all technology-related systems needed to support government operations. This infrastructure includes networks, hardware, communication systems, software, and cybersecurity systems at numerous City locations.
The Department maintains reliable applications covering many different functions, including financials, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), records management, public safety, parks and recreation, and the City’s website. Its primary purpose is to enhance operational efficiency, ensure data integrity, modernize technology, and facilitate communication among departments, officials, and citizens. This is accomplished by providing end-user training, delivering technical support to staff, implementing robust cybersecurity measures to prevent data breaches, and ensuring system uptime for critical public services.
The City IT department currently supports:
- 800 users
- 400 desktop PCs
- 200 cell phones
- 100 printers and copiers
- 150 wireless access points
- 125 mobile data computers in public safety vehicles
- 30 locations
- 50 servers
- 170 network switches, traffic signals & wireless controllers
- VOIP Phone system - including more than 525 desk/wall phones
- 550 security cameras
- 300 mobile devices (laptops, iPads & Microsoft Surface Pros)
The IT Department is housed in the City Hall Annex building, located at 1017 College Street, Bowling Green, Ky. 42101.
