Information Technology

Mission Statement

The Information Technology (IT) Department provides quality technical support for the City’s information systems network by offering essential communication capabilities, appropriate hardware and software, application training curricula, and users’ involvement in the development of long-range goals for keeping the information technology current. The Department strives to provide timely and comprehensive solutions delivered with the highest level of customer support and professionalism to ensure all City departments can effectively serve the citizens of Bowling Green, KY.

Purpose

The Information Technology Department, headed by the IT Director offers applications covering many different functions. Some of the applications used are as follows: Financials (Purchasing, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, General Receipts, and Fixed Assets), Payroll and Attendance, Accounts Receivable, Revenue Collections, Public Safety, Human Resource Management, AutoCAD, Land Management, Fleet Management, Golf Systems, Cemetery Management and Parks & Rec Management, Online Forms Processing, and the City’s Web site and Intranet. 

The Information Technology Department offers all trained City employees the following office products: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), e-mail, calendar management and document management. Other software is distributed based on specialized needs of the individual’s responsibilities. 

The City IT department currently supports:

• Approximately 400 desktop PCs and more than 150 printer devices
• Over 30 locations serviced and growing.
• Over 50 servers and extensive network equipment.
• Video Conferencing (Fire Department)
• VOIP Phone system and City cell phones
• Approximately 450 security cameras
• Approximately 300 laptops and mobile devices

The IT Department is housed in the City Hall Annex building, located at 1017 College Street, Bowling Green, Ky. 42101.
