LEXINGTON, Ky. — Bowling Green Commissioner Sue Parrigin has been elected to the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) Executive Board, expanding her leadership role with the statewide organization that represents cities across the state. She has been on the KLC Board of Directors since 2021.
Voters first elected Parrigin to the Bowling Green City Commission in 2014. She served for six years as mayor pro tem. Her new position on the 17-member KLC Executive Board gives Bowling Green a direct voice in the organization's leadership, helping guide its advocacy, programs, services, and long-term direction.
“Sue brings extensive leadership experience and a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Kentucky cities,” said KLC Executive Director/CEO J.D. Chaney. “She has been an engaged member of the KLC Board of Directors, and we look forward to the perspective she will bring to the Executive Board. Bowling Green is an important part of Kentucky’s municipal landscape, and Sue’s experience serving one of the commonwealth’s largest and fastest-growing cities will be valuable as we work on behalf of cities across the state.”
Parrigin brings decades of leadership and management experience to her public service. She earned a doctorate in organizational leadership and development and a graduate certificate in leadership studies from the University of Louisville, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Kentucky University. She retired from WKU in 2017 and works as a leadership development consultant.
Her community service has included involvement with numerous boards and organizations focused on economic development, transportation, public safety, business, and community development. She is also a graduate of Leadership Bowling Green and Leadership Kentucky and received the ATHENA Award in 2012.
“I’m honored to take on this additional responsibility with the Kentucky League of Cities,” Parrigin said. “My service on the board of directors has allowed me to work with city officials from across Kentucky and learn from the experiences of communities of every size. I look forward to building on that work as a member of the Executive Board and helping guide an organization that provides such important advocacy, services, and resources to Kentucky cities.”
KLC provides Kentucky cities with legislative advocacy, legal services, training, research, insurance, financial services, and other resources designed to support effective municipal government.
