New Americans focus on Public Safety and the Courts

The third session of the Academy for New Americans will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 9:00am in the Bowling Green Fire Department Headquarters 625 East 6th Avenue, Bowling Green, KY

Session three will focus on Public Safety and the Courts.  Ronnie Ward, Public Information Officer with the Bowling Green Police Department will give an overview of the Police Department and how to access emergency services.  Marlee Boenig, Fire Prevention Education Specialist, will lead a presentation and tour of the Bowling Green Fire Department.  Academy participants will then visit the Warren County Justice Center for presentations from Brandi Duvall, Warren County Circuit Clerk, Lynette Yates, Warren County Clerk, and the Hon. Chris Cohron, Commonwealth Attorney accompanied by Jamie Spinks Meredith, Assistant Warren County Attorney.

Thirty (30) applicants were selected to participate, representing fifteen (15) different countries and speaking twenty one (21) different languages.  To learn more about each Academy participants visit: http://www.bgky.org/new-americans/2018

The Academy for New Americans is a free leadership-training program sponsored by the City of Bowling Green that empowers New Americans to understand and participate in City Government. The purpose of the program is to provide New Americans the tools necessary to successfully navigate City services, community information and resources in order to become key stakeholders in assisting their respective ethnic communities and neighborhoods.

The Academy for New Americans is led by the International Communities Liaison Division (ICL) in the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services.  The Academy consists of day long sessions held once a month, on the fourth Thursday of every month, ending with a graduation after the last session of the Academy in June.
