Planning and Design Division
The Planning and Design Division is part of the Public Works Department. The Planning and Design Division is responsible for infrastructure and capital improvement project planning and management, administration of City projects, stormwater management, Geographic Information System, and plan review for new development.
As a result of the rapid growth in the area, the City of Bowling Green has multiple capital improvement projects ongoing throughout the year. These projects include sidewalk and street construction as well as building and park construction.
The ultimate goal of the Stormwater program is to reduce the impact stormwater has on our local receiving streams. Bowling Green faces unique challenges with respect to stormwater runoff because Warren County is located in a karst region that is typified by caves, sinkholes, springs, underground streams and other karst features. Several tasks and activities have been identified to keep the area under control.
The Planning and Design Division maintains the mapping data for Bowling Green's Geographic Information System and serves as liaison with non-City agencies for GIS-related activities. They also provide services, products, training, and technical assistance to City employees.
Transportation Management provides comprehensive traffic engineering, street maintenance and pavement management, and street capital improvement planning. In addition, the program promotes alternative transportation methods through the mass transit program, future greenways, and bike paths.
