Why:

Communities that promote bicycling are cleaner, greener and healthier places to live. They also have a stronger economy, because a high quality of life increases property values, business growth and tourism.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson
Louisville's wildly successful Bike Louisville program routinely draws thousands of people to community rides.

  • The city is building a 100-mile bike and pedestrian loop.
Bill Nesper, director of the national Bicycle Friendly Community Program

More than 70 communities nationwide have earned Bicycle Friendly Community status, including Louisville and Lexington.

What is a Bicycle-Friendly Community?

The Bicycle-Friendly Community program recognizes communities that actively support bicycling for fun, fitness and transportation. The League of American Bicyclists, a bicycling group based in Washington, D.C., has granted BFC status to more than 70 communities nationwide, including Louisville and Lexington. Cities both large and small have received the award, including other college towns such as Boulder, Colorado, and Auburn, Alabama. pdf logo Read More Information
