The City of Bowling Green Announces New City Manager

The City of Bowling Green Board of Commissioners held a Special Call Meeting on Tuesday, May 8th at 4 p.m., and voted to appoint Jeff Meisel as Bowling Green’s next City Manager.

Meisel began his career with the City in January of 2002 as City Treasurer and was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 2006. Born and raised in Bowling Green, Meisel is a 1989 graduate of Bowling Green High School, a 1993 graduate of WKU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, and a 1994 graduate of WKU with a Master’s of Professional Accounting Degree. Meisel has been a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) since 1998 and still maintains that certification through continuing education hours in Governmental Accounting and Finance each year.

“There were some 40 applicants, both internal and external for the position of City Manager and the Board of Commissioners took the time to review the information from each one,” said Mayor Bruce Wilkerson. “The difficulty in our interview process was that all of the applicants were highly qualified and our internal candidates were well thought of in the community, by the Board and by fellow employees. We are confident in our final choice and welcome Jeff to his new role as City Manager.”

Some additional highlights to the career of Meisel include being the principle behind the discovery and prosecution of the Davis Cooper embezzlement; he has produced 11 years of balanced income projections and spending; he has lead the city to reduction of debt load from a high of about $150 million in 2009 to less than $85 million currently; and through his leadership, the Finance Department has won the Government Finance Officers Association Excellence in Financial Reporting award for 11 consecutive years.

Meisel has been married to his wife, Lou Ann for 18 years and has boy-girl twins, Landon and Macy, who are 13 years old and attending BGJHS. Jeff is a long-time member of Living Hope Baptist Church.

Meisel will officially assume the position of City Manager on Wednesday May 9, 2018
